Purple W.I.N.G.S. definitely fills a void here in Las Vegas. Girls are being ignored and treated as if they are invisible. The effects of living in a hypersexual city can't be ignored. Girls see their likeness on billboards, in city newspapers, magazines, leaflets, and pamphlets being portrayed as sex objects. They grow up knowing prostitution is legal in brothels only 90 minutes away from here; they understand that while prostitution is illegal within the city limits, there is an allowance of the conduct on the strip. They walk past massage parlors that offer prostitutes right in their own neighborhoods. So where are the options? Where are the safe-havens explicitly for them?
We are ultimately responsible for the youth growing up here in Las Vegas. We are responsible for our city having the #1 high school dropout rate, and the #3 teen pregnancy rate in the country. Therefore, we are going to spread our message, and mobile mentorship across the valley. Purple W.I.N.G.S. will to be the "go-to" organization for girls by the Fall of 2011. We might not able to change the Las Vegas image, but we will alter that image for our girls!
