Just Dance!
Help us in welcoming our newest volunteer, Kathryn "Kat" Hampton!
Kathryn is currently a UNLV student studying under the Greenspun School of Communications with a full-time job as a dancer at the Wynn.
"Dance has always been my passion since I was three years old, studying jazz and ballet at the west Las Vegas library/community center. The community has given so much to me, and I want to return the favor. Purple Wings is a great organization, I am willing to volunteer my time to help at risk girls find productive activities, build confidence through dance and get them on the path to success!
When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way."
Welcome Kat! Our girls are excited to learn from you, and we are thrilled to have you on board!

THANK YOUR MENTOR DAY!
—President Barack Obama issued a proclamation January 3, 2012 as National Mentoring Month. He stated, “By lending a hand and serving as a mentor, countless individuals have empowered young Americans with the confidence, inspiration, and tools to lead rich and fulfilling lives. This month, I encourage adults to make an investment in our Nation's future by helping a child discover the best in themselves. Every day, mentors help young Americans face the challenges of growing into adulthood. By setting a positive example and sharing their time, knowledge and experience, mentors play an essential role in preparing our Nation's youth for a bright future. During National Mentoring Month, we celebrate the contributions of all those who cultivate a supportive environment for the next generation, and we recommit to expanding mentorship opportunities across our country.”
As a highlight of National Mentoring Month 2012, Thank Your Mentor Day was celebrated on January 24th by Purple W.I.N.G.S. Organization. AnnalynBo Carrillo from the office of Governor Brian Sandoval, Boards of Commissions helped us honor the mentors of Purple W.I.N.G.S. Organization by handing out certificates from the Governor; and two of those mentors received President Obama’s Drum Major for Service awards. The girls of the organization took turns speaking about what PW's and their individual mentor means to them. Not one dry eye was in the room, as the girls spoke from their hearts. This was truly a special event that we will continue annually. Thank you Mentors!
